Arooj Jamal
I am a clinical psychologist and integrative psychotherapist working since 2010. I am passionate about advocating human beings as a complex and holistic system of mind, body and soul. My work relies heavily on exploring these nonlinear interlinked processes through somatic resonance, felt sense, body language, posture, intuition, visual imagery and body psychotherapy, exploring trauma in the present moment guided by the body cues and sensory experience in the therapeutic space. I am particularly interested in exploring transgenerational trauma as it resurfaces in the here and now experience. My intention is that the client intuitively reconnects with their own inherent transformational process and inner resources, at their own pace, and to feel their intrinsic grounding in a safe setting. In my understanding, a consistent sense of safety is developed with the paradoxical acceptance that we pendulate between feeling safe and unsafe, all the time. It’s a lifelong process. My other interests include being a counseling supervisor, researcher, facilitating process groups, tutoring counseling students, and teaching different topics in Clinical and Social Psychology and Theories of Personality. Presently, my area of research interest includes developing a standardized ethical framework for Mental health practice in Pakistan that caters to indigenous cultural nuances, family dynamics and ethical dilemmas that are also collectively shared by the South Asian Community as well. In My free time I love to read books and explore my aesthetic sense by delving into interior and dress designing. I love to goof around with my own small family, travelling, road trips, connecting with nature. I feel solace in simple things, like cooking a family meal, sitting in a park and looking at the swaying trees above and around me and just paying attention to the universe in constant motion.
